Today was very productive. We had a teacher in-service in the morning, which basically involved discussing online resources and systems that we would be using throughout the year. Then, we worked on creating a daily class schedule for all of the students.
Teaching here is a lot different than the schools back home. Students progress based on their abilities, not based on a grade level. This allows material to be tailored to their individual learning levels. It also means that within an age group, students could vary by 2-3 levels in any given subject! This makes the whole situation sound pretty overwhelming, but thankfully students can be split into groups, and each teacher helps in teaching the various groups!
With only 4 of us, it also means we get to supervise other activities such as PE and art! I also have the opportunity to tutor an older student in writing, which is one of my strong points. I'm really excited to begin setting up my classroom and start teaching next week!
Our planning took up pretty much the whole day, so afterwards, we all took a walk down to the seaside.
